This course is addressed to doctoral students from all faculties who write their dissertation or conference papers in English or who communicate in English in an academic environment. The workshop is designed by and for doctoral student(s) and will be structured in an informal manner where it will once again be FUN to learn English! The course will cover various aspects of learning English, from English grammar revision, informal speaking skills for various situations and formal speaking skills (also related to speaking about a dissertation/presenting your dissertation/related topics at a conference). There will also be the possibility to focus on written language skills, should the participants so wish. In the more personal atmosphere of the course, each of the participants should feel they are able to improve and develop their language skills appropriately in dialogue with their colleagues.
Zahra Esmail is a native English speaker from London. She has a TESOL certificate to teach English to foreign speakers of English and has taught English at the Beethoven Gymnasium Bonn, Berlitz Bonn and Essen and Inlingua Münster. She is currently a doctoral student working in the German studies department and the University of Wuppertal.This workshop is part of the special support concept for international doctoral students established by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the framework of the STIBET program.
