Was passiert eigentlich in unserem Gehirn, wenn wir spielen, und was hat das mit wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten zu tun? An diesem Abend versuchen wir, diesen Fragen auf den Grund zu gehen,  zunächst mit einem kurzen theoretischen Input, und dann ganz praktisch: Wir spielen Mario Kart!

Wir messen uns in mehreren Runden, sammeln Items, driften um die Kurven und versuchen, uns einen Platz auf dem Siegertreppchen zu sichern. Der Spaß steht natürlich im Vordergrund, doch das Turnier ermöglicht auch die Erfahrung von spielerischen Dynamiken: Wie gehen wir mit Wettbewerb, Erfolg und Misserfolg um? Was passiert, wenn auf einmal Zeitdruck entsteht? Und wie wichtig sind Strategie, Konzentration, Reaktion und ein wenig Glück?

Egal ob als ambitionierte*r Rennfahrer*innen oder kompletter Mario-Kart-Neuling, jede*r ist willkommen. Letztlich ist es nicht nur wichtig, wer den Pokal mit nach Hause nimmt; viel mehr zählt die Frage: Können wir Effekte und Dynamiken beobachten, welche wir nur dann tatsächlich erleben, wenn wir zusammen spielen?

Schauen Sie vorbei, spielen Sie mit und finden Sie heraus, was passiert, wenn wir unserem Gehirn erlauben, auf spielerische Weise Vollgas zu geben!

What exactly happens in our brains when we play, and what does this have to do with scientific work? On this evening, we’ll try to get to the bottom of these questions, starting with a brief theoretical introduction, and then taking a hands-on approach: we’ll be playing Mario Kart!

We’ll compete in several rounds, collect power-ups, drift round the bends and try to secure a place on the podium. Of course, the focus is on having fun, but the tournament also allows us to experience the dynamics of play: how do we deal with competition, success and failure? What happens when we’re suddenly under time pressure? And how important are strategy, concentration, reaction times and a bit of luck?

Whether you’re an ambitious racer or a complete Mario Kart novice, everyone is welcome. Ultimately, it’s not just about who takes the trophy home; what matters far more is this question: can we observe effects and dynamics that we only truly experience when we play together?
