The course consists of two main parts, each dedicated to improving and perfecting a specific English language skill.

The first part of this workshop is centred on verbal skills for doctoral students, who are often faced with the challenge of presenting their thesis in front of an English speaking audience abroad. Participants are kindly invited to deliver a 5 minute oral presentation of their specific theses. An additional 3 minutes are dedicated to answering short questions from the audience about the thesis at hand.

Break:10 minutes

The second part of the workshop is concerned with improving writing skills, focusing especially on written communication: contacting a PhD Supervisor, writing emails, the first steps prior to receiving the letter of acceptance, etc. and writing a synopsis of one´s envisaged thesis.

Remus Racolta is currently earning a doctorate in English Studies at the University of Wuppertal. He has been teaching English for 8 years at an English bilingual school and is an authorised Cambridge ESOL trainer and examiner.
