Successful PhD Completion – Managing Your Doctoral Journey

30Nov

10:00 – 17:00 |Workshop

Leader: Dr. Julian Hanebeck Time: Monday, 30 November 2026, 10-17 Uhr Place: Senatssaal (K.11.07)

A PhD is a complex, long-term project characterized by uncertainty, changing requirements, and a high degree of personal responsibility. Successfully completing a doctorate therefore requires more than a good research idea: it also involves managing time and attention, maintaining motivation, structuring scientific work, communicating effectively with supervisors, and dealing constructively with setbacks and periods of uncertainty.

This workshop invites doctoral researchers to take a step back and reflect on their individual doctoral projects and working practices. We will explore key factors that influence the progress of a PhD and develop practical strategies for managing the doctoral journey more effectively. The workshop combines short inputs with practical exercises, individual reflection, and peer exchange. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying strategies that fit your own research project, working style, and current stage of the PhD.

Doctoral researchers at all stages of their PhD and across all disciplines are welcome.

Dr. Julian Hanebeck is a science manager, systemic coach, literary scholar and, since November 2014, manager of the Center for Graduate Studies (CGS).
