Online materials ‘Culture Shock’

available languages: English and Chinese

A change of culture is always a challenge in which you are not only confronted with a foreign culture, but above all with yourself. In general, the term culture shock (Oberg, 1960; Wagner, 1996) refers to the difficulties associated with adapting to a new cultural environment. The confrontation with the unknown often triggers unexpected reactions of one's own, which can lead to study difficulties and private problems. However, a more precise knowledge of these processes can help to cope more successfully with the cultural change.

SaPe offers a comprehensive course programme for the qualification of academic staff at Bergische Universität. Various certificates can be obtained, e.g. on the topics of teaching, counselling or quality management at the university.

Further information and contact persons can be found on the SaPe website.

The ZWB offers further education certificate courses, e.g. in the areas of German as a Second Language, Integral Innovation and Gender & Diversity.

Further information and contact persons can be found on the ZWB website.

Note on courses offered by the university's schools

In the StudiLöwe portal you will find all the courses offered by the various schools of the University of Wuppertal. As a general rule, if you are interested in attending a course as a doctoral student (even if it is not related to your subject), it is worth asking the responsible lecturer whether you may attend it.
